School Visits

Education is paramount at the George & Leah McKenna Museum of African American Art. Focusing on the placement of a work of art in a cultural/historical context, the goal of the McKenna Museum is to have students engage with pieces of art beyond aesthetic value and make connections to the human experience. Through our tours, workshops and curriculum materials, field trips at the McKenna Museum are not only fun but they develop critical thinking skills and observation techniques. By allowing art to come alive, students draw parallels between the themes of paintings and sculptures they view to the subjects they encounter in the classroom and at home in their communities.

Basic Field Trips include:

  1. 45-minute guided tours
  2. 45-minute workshop
  3. Lunch or afternoon snack
